He will refresh your life with His love

Hi everyone, whatever stage in the term you find yourself, I hope you’re doing well. Some of you are in the thick of exams whilst others have already begun their monstrously vast summer holidays – DMU students, you know who you are!!

So this week I asked a group of “older” ladies for some wisdom. I asked them to imagine they could venture back in time to share some advice with their young adult selves. One friend wrote this Dream big dreams and believe anything is possible. Take giant leaps of faith and have adventures. Laugh lots and don’t take things too seriously! Believe what God says about you, treasure it in your heart and live from that place”

Now we can probably agree that this advice is pretty good – but there was something else about it that had a profound impact on me. You see, I know this friend has suffered pain and illness throughout her young adult years. I know something of the deep heartache and loss she experiences each day as she continues with the huge restrictions this illness places upon her life. Yet she lives with a heart full of faith and generosity and, battling in ways most of us can only imagine, she writes about big dreams and adventures.

So what about us? In varying measure we will all experience disappointment, restrictions and pain and I am firmly of the belief that it’s good to be honest about those things. But in that place it is also vital to keep dreaming with God and believing what He says about us. Because, as my friend went on to write, The Lord your God wins victory after victory and is always with you. He celebrates and sings because of you, and he will refresh your life with his love. (Zeph 3:17) There is more of Him ahead for us all, He loves us and because of this we will always have hope.
