“Will you come with me?”
Monday, 14 March 2011
So, it was Wednesday last week, our day off. Having been swimming, had a cooked breakfast, cleared up and then cleaned the house and made a cake while David played golf, I was just settled on the sofa for a (I thought) well-earned rest.
Then in comes David, fresh from golfing success. His voice sounds loud in my snoozy state:
“Will you come with me?” he yells (or it felt like he was yelling).
“Why?” I say.
“You’ll see”
“Where to?”
“Not telling, it’s up to you if you want to come”
“Do you want me to come?”
“I said, it’s up to you.”
I am not at all keen, but experience tells me I shouldn’t pass off this opportunity. I drag myself off the sofa, throw on my anorak and sit in the front seat of the car, fervently hoping that wherever it is we are going, I won’t see anyone I know…I am certain I do not look at my best!
It’s all most mysterious. We park on a street in the town centre and David jumps out. “You stay here,I’ll be back in a moment”.
And that’s it. Off he runs to who knows where for who knows how long and I sit and wait…
When I was considering what to write in this blog, the phrase came back to me. In fact, it’s been going round my head for a few days now: Will you come with me?
Could it be that our Saviour is asking us the very same question?
It may be that you are not sure exactly where it will lead, it may seem a little crazy, it may not be the easiest or most convenient option, but He is asking you to come with him, to trust Him that as you do, He goes with you (He does say, “Come with me”, not “off you go on your own”. In fact, He puts it a lot more eloquently than David:
‘Arise, come, my darling;
My beautiful one, come with me.’
Song of Songs 2:13
So was my decision to go with the flow a good one? Was it a good idea to trust David and get in the car, despite not getting my questions answered?
YES it was! Back to the car he came and we set off for home. When we stop at a traffic light, he hands me a little ipod, a second hand bargain from a unique shop…a wonderful gift for me, as I had lost my previous one at the gym.
Each time I enjoy its music, I will try and remember that when I get asked the question again by one I trust, “Yes” is a good response.
So are you hearing…………..what will you say?
