Becka’s Story
My name is Rebecca, however, I have been called ‘Becka’ all my life. I grew up in inner London but at the age of 13, I moved to Surrey. My mum brought me and my sister up single handed, with the help of God. I remember my mum working really hard so that my sister and I could have extra music lessons and attend dance school. From a young age my mother would take my sister and I along to church with her. When I was 8 years old I made a decision that I did not want to go to church anymore. Growing up I felt empty and had a longing to be liked and accepted. In order to get rid of the empty feeling, I turned to dance and music. I made a decision that I was going to famous. I didn’t care how, I just wanted to be famous.
In January 2006 I was involved in a serious car accident which was the beginning of a life changing journey. I was knocked down by a car. My right calf muscle split in half. I underwent Intensive hydrotherapy. After months of therapy, I was referred to physiotherapy. Doctors and consultants informed my mother and I that I would not be able to dance professionally. During this time I became depressed and experienced anxiety attacks. My family members prayed for me and I began to heal rapidly.
One day, my auntie invited me to her church and I reluctantly went. Whilst sitting in the pews I heard the gospel preached for the first time and learnt about the love of God and salvation. That day I received Jesus in my heart and prayed a prayer that has changed my life forever. Since giving my life to Jesus I am completely healed physically and emotionally. I am no longer depressed and have experienced a joy that cannot be described in words. He has given me the ability to dance again. Jesus filled the void in my life which I was constantly trying to feel. I no longer desire fame, but desire to make Jesus famous. I owe him my life. He is the reason I am alive today and I am so happy and grateful to the Father, he walks with me daily. He has changed my life; because of him I am free!
